My half hour interview with James Freeman on 19 October covered a broad array of issues surrounding the ongoing Israeli-Hamas war but with focus on the Russian perspective, on Russian interests in a region that is geographically, economically, politically close to the Russian Federation.

The first 17 minutes or so of this podcast are introductory material by the host, who is calling upon his audience to step back from the intense emotions we feel looking at video images of the atrocities committed by both Hamas and Israel so far in the conflict raging since 7 October and to avoid taking sides on the basis of the partial information conveyed by mainstream media or the public pronouncements of our politicians. This is a recommendation that I heartily support: herd behavior will not take us anywhere good.
